Founded in 1459 by ruler Vlad Tepes on the banks of the Dambovita River, later becoming the capital city of the Princely Court. Bucharest has always been progressive. Gas lamps could be found here in 1861 before Paris and Berlin, the city being known as 'The Little Paris' between the two World Wars.
Museums in Bucharest are varied and rich. The Village Museum (an open-air museum) situated near the Arch of Triumph, National Art Museum, Museum of Art Collections, Cotroceni National Museum and National History Museum which keeps the National Treasure.
